About Cape & Cowl Comics
Cape & Cowl Comics is on Clay Street in downtown Oakland, between 16th and 17th Streets and a short walk from Frank Ogawa Plaza and the 19th Street BART station. It received the Will Eisner Spirit of Comics Retailer Award in 2023, and it marks its 11th anniversary with a party in November 2026.
The shop orders in anything it does not have in stock. It runs events all year, including its own Cape & Cowl Con, drink-and-draw nights, creator signings, book clubs, a Halloween night and Free Comic Book Day, which it pairs with a food drive.
A consignment program gives local artists shelf space for self-published comics, zines, prints and pins. Hours are 11am to 7pm on weekdays and 11am to 6pm at weekends.
