Castle Perilous Games & Books

Castle Perilous Games & Books opened in 1990 on West Main Street in downtown Carbondale and has had the same owner since. It calls itself the largest game and comic store in Southern Illinois, with about 6,000 square feet of space.

The store carries more than 500 role-playing, board and miniatures games and a similar number of comics, including current and back issues and graphic novels from DC, Marvel, Image, Boom!, Dynamite, Dark Horse and IDW. Gaming areas seat 24 players, and a gallery shows original game art.

It trades in Magic, Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh singles and used board games and RPGs, but not on Tuesdays; large collections need an appointment. Regular events include open board gaming on Thursdays, Friday Night Magic and D&D tables, and a game rental library.
