About Eiichiro Oda
Eiichiro Oda is the Japanese manga artist behind One Piece, the pirate adventure that Shueisha has serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump since July 1997. With more than 600 million collected volumes in circulation worldwide, it is the best-selling manga series ever printed. Viz Media publishes it in English in North America and the UK.
Before his own series, Oda worked as an assistant on several Jump titles, including Nobuhiro Watsuki's Rurouni Kenshin. As a teenager he placed second in the Tezuka Award with the one-shot Wanted!, and in 1996 he drew two pirate one-shots titled Romance Dawn that introduced Monkey D. Luffy.
His later honors include the Japan Cartoonists Association Award Grand Prize for One Piece in 2013 and the Shin Watanabe Award in 2023.
