Kanehito Yamada

Kanehito Yamada is the Japanese writer of Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, a fantasy manga illustrated by Tsukasa Abe. Shogakukan has serialized it in Weekly Shōnen Sunday since April 28, 2020, and Viz Media publishes it in English in North America.

By January 2026 the manga had more than 35 million copies in circulation. Its editor-in-chief has said he admired Yamada's earlier work, Bocchi Hakase to Robot Shōjo no Zetsubō Teki Utopia, even though it did not sell well.

Frieren won the 14th Manga Taishō and the New Creator Prize of the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize in 2021. In 2024 it won both the Shogakukan Manga Award and the Kodansha Manga Award in the shōnen category.
