About Kentaro Miura
Kentaro Miura was a Japanese manga artist, active from 1985 to 2021, best known for the dark fantasy series Berserk. A 48-page prototype appeared in Hakusensha's Monthly ComiComi in 1988, and the full serialization began in 1989. By 2023 Berserk had more than 60 million copies in circulation.
His short Futatabi won the 34th Newcomer Manga Award from Weekly Shōnen Magazine in 1985. He briefly worked as an assistant to George Morikawa of Hajime no Ippo, and in 1988 he collaborated with writer Buronson on King of Wolves.
In 2002 Miura received the Award for Excellence at the sixth Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize for Berserk. He cited Buronson and Tetsuo Hara's Fist of the North Star as the work that most shaped his own.
