Makoto Yukimura

Makoto Yukimura is a Japanese manga artist best known for Planetes and Vinland Saga. He debuted with Planetes, a hard science fiction manga serialized in Weekly Morning from 1999 to 2004. Sunrise adapted it into a 26-episode anime series.

Before his debut he worked as an assistant to Shin Morimura. Vinland Saga first ran in Weekly Shōnen Magazine and then moved to the monthly Afternoon because of its release pace. It earned him the Grand Prize in the manga category of the 2009 Japan Media Arts Festival.

Yukimura has said that reading Fist of the North Star as a boy inspired him to become a manga artist. He was a guest of the Angoulême International Comics Festival in 2010.
