About Challengers Comics + Conversation
Challengers Comics + Conversation opened on March 31, 2008, half a block south of Western and Milwaukee in Bucktown, across from the Western Blue Line station. Owners Patrick Brower and W. Dal Bush won the Will Eisner Spirit of Comics Retailer Award in 2013.
The shop sells graphic novels across many genres, including manga, LGBTQIA+ and Spanish-language sections, plus single issues, supplies and toys. Sidekicks, a connected space, is set aside for young readers.
Its subscription service holds standing orders and pre-orders with no advance payment; subscribers are asked to visit monthly or pay an invoice online. Books can be shipped for about $7 per order or delivered same-day in Chicagoland from $9. The store does not buy personal collections, and comics are limited to two copies per order.
