About First Aid Comics
First Aid Comics is a full-service comic and games shop on East 55th Street in Hyde Park, a few blocks north of the University of Chicago. James Nurss opened it in November 2008 on 53rd Street; it moved to 55th Street in 2011 and expanded in August 2016 to add gaming space and more back issues.
Stock covers new releases, back issues, graphic novels, a large all-ages section, board games, card games and RPGs. The free pull-list club gives 10% off new comics and pre-ordered merchandise and 20% off back issues; members are asked to collect at least once a month.
The events calendar includes a monthly graphic novel book club, Friday Night Magic, Commander afternoons and a mini wargaming club. The shop buys collections selectively and asks sellers to call ahead. A sister store operates on Taylor Street in Little Italy.
