About Maus
Maus shows Art Spiegelman interviewing his father about his experiences as a Polish Jew and Holocaust survivor. It draws Jews as mice, Germans as cats and Poles as pigs. The chapters were serialized from 1980 to 1991 in Raw, the avant-garde comics magazine Spiegelman published with Françoise Mouly.
Pantheon Books collected it in two volumes: My Father Bleeds History in 1986 and And Here My Troubles Began in 1991. In 1992 it received a Pulitzer Prize Special Award in Letters, the first given to a graphic novel.
Spiegelman has turned down offers to adapt it for film or television. The companion book MetaMaus, from 2011, gathers background material.
