About Watchmen
Watchmen is a 12-issue DC Comics maxiseries written by Alan Moore, drawn by Dave Gibbons and colored by John Higgins. It is set in an alternate history where costumed heroes emerged in the 1940s and 1960s, and by 1985 the US is edging toward war with the Soviet Union. After the murder of Edward Blake, the vigilante Rorschach starts his own investigation.
The issues were cover-dated September 1986 to October 1987, and DC collected them in a trade paperback in 1987 that has been reprinted many times. It won a 1988 Hugo Award in the Other Forms category.
Zack Snyder directed a 2009 film, HBO aired Damon Lindelof's sequel series in 2019, and a two-part animated adaptation was released in 2024.
