About The Dark Knight Returns
The Dark Knight Returns is a four-issue limited series written and penciled by Frank Miller, inked by Klaus Janson and colored by Lynn Varley. At 55, Bruce Wayne returns from a decade of retirement as Batman to fight a Gotham overrun by crime, much of it driven by a gang called the Mutants, while facing opposition from the police and the US government.
DC Comics published it monthly from February to June 1986 and collected it the same year, with anniversary editions in 1996 and 2016. Miller continued the story in The Dark Knight Strikes Again and The Dark Knight III: The Master Race.
A two-part animated film, with Peter Weller voicing Batman, was released in 2012 and 2013.
