About VIZ Media
VIZ Media is an American company that publishes manga and distributes and licenses anime, films and TV series. It was founded in 1986 as Viz, LLC, and took its current form in 2005 when it merged with ShoPro Entertainment.
The company is owned by the Japanese publishers Shueisha and Shogakukan together with their production company Shogakukan-Shueisha Productions, which is why so much of their manga reaches English readers through VIZ. Its offices are on Market Street in San Francisco.
In 2017 it was the largest graphic novel publisher in the US bookstore market, with a 23 percent share.
